About the Journey

Explore the intertwined cultural and political histories of Ireland and Northern Ireland alongside Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon.

In Dublin, explore the sites that have inspired and been immortalized by some of the greatest writers in history: Merrion Square, Trinity College, the Yeats Exhibition at the National Library, the James Joyce Center, and the Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI).

In Belfast, experience an innovative dual-narrative Conflict Tour with two guides: one, a Catholic and former member of the IRA and the other, a Protestant and the founder of the peacekeeping organization, Rethinking Conflict.

Along the way, hear personal stories from Muldoon, who was born in Northern Ireland, including a private screening of the film Paul Muldoon: Laoithe is Lirici

Princeton Journeys is proud to partner with Mejdi Tours, the tour operator for this program. Aziz Abu Sarah and Scott Cooper co-founded Mejdi Tours in 2009 with a bold vision of tourism as a vehicle of peacemaking, which Abu Sarah describes in his 2014 TED Talk. When developing the Princeton Journeys Dublin/Belfast tour, Mejdi consulted with local Irish politicians, journalists and storytellers, as well as people who fought against each other in Northern Ireland and those who worked on the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, a major development in the Northern Ireland peace process.
